University admission is different from student residence, and a job offer alone does not establish eligibility for highly skilled migrant entry. Choose your the Netherlands journey

Two audiences. One accountable approach.

For individuals

Identify the Dutch institution, employer or activity

Confirm who applies, what category fits and which documents your sponsor or competent mission requires. Budget for tuition and living needs separately.

Netherlands: Professional work and career planning

Sponsor-led and other employment

The highly skilled migrant route requires an employer recognized by IND to apply. Other employment categories have their own conditions and must not be treated as interchangeable. Review the current salary rule, contract, qualifications and any professional registration for the actual role. Do not assume that every vacancy, employer or offer supports this residence category.

How we can help

  • Employer and category eligibility
  • Current contract and salary-condition checks
  • Qualifications and licensing preparation
Discuss Dutch employment

For organisations

Build a stronger workforce

Discuss hiring around the actual IND category and employer role. Recognized sponsorship is a specific status, not a general benefit of working with a recruiter.

Netherlands: Workforce planning

Workforce planning

Define the job and determine whether the employer and proposed conditions fit the intended IND category.

How we can help

Workforce process

A clear process from requirements to next steps

A Dutch hiring plan should align employer eligibility, current contract conditions and candidate documents before travel or a start-date commitment.

  1. 01

    Define the role

Clarify credentials, duties, language and proposed employment terms.

  2. 02

    Check the employer route

Identify the IND category and any recognized-sponsor requirement.

  3. 03

    Coordinate documents

Prepare employer evidence and candidate qualifications and identity.

  4. 04

    Plan onboarding

Confirm the decision, right to work and required registration steps.

Why Netherlands

Prepare around the right Dutch sponsor and category

Sponsor-aware planning

The applicant, institution and employer have distinct roles in the relevant IND procedure.

Realistic non-EU budgeting

Institution tuition, maintenance evidence and actual living costs are separate requirements.

Clear service boundaries

Discuss available support without promises of sponsorship, placement, funding or approval.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about the Netherlands

Official sources reviewed on 31 October 2026. IND uses nationality-dependent guidance; verify the current conditions for your own application.

Who applies for the university student residence permit?

IND states that only the educational institution can apply for this university or higher-professional education permit. Confirm admission, institution eligibility and its document instructions first.

Read official guidance

What do non-EU degree programmes cost?

Study in NL publishes indicative non-EU annual tuition ranges of EUR 9,000-20,000 for bachelor programmes and EUR 12,000-30,000 for master programmes. These are general ranges, not a quote. Confirm the programme fee and intake year.

Read official guidance

Can I use the statutory tuition amount as my non-EU budget?

Do not assume you qualify for statutory fees. Status and programme conditions matter. Use the actual institution assessment and invoice, then budget living costs and residence financial evidence separately.

Read official guidance

Is every vocational course an overseas residence route?

No. A course advertisement does not establish provider or immigration eligibility. A general paid apprenticeship route for South Asian applicants has not been verified here; check the exact institution and category.

Can student employment fund the initial application?

Do not rely on a future job. Check the institution and IND financial conditions first, and verify any employment restrictions and employer authorization before working.

Can any employer sponsor a highly skilled migrant?

No. IND states that only an employer it recognizes can apply under this category. Other work categories have separate requirements.

Read official guidance

Is there one salary requirement for all workers?

No universal figure is quoted here. The employment category and relevant current IND conditions must be checked, including the actual contract and any occupation requirements.

Read official guidance

Does company incorporation qualify me for a start-up permit?

Do not assume it does. IND identifies the start-up route with innovative business activity; the current project and application conditions must be met separately from registration.

Read official guidance

Does a Dutch permit replace professional licensing?

No. Regulated occupations require separate recognition or registration checks with the competent professional body.

Where should applicants living in South Asia submit?

Confirm the institution or employer application role and any visa/identity steps with the mission responsible for your legal residence. Procedures can differ by nationality and location.

Do Schengen rules cover the Caribbean Netherlands?

Do not assume so. This page concerns the European Netherlands; check the exact Caribbean territory and entry system separately.

What are the basic short-visit rules?

The Commission lists up to 90 days in any 180-day period, EUR 90 as the standard adult Schengen fee and normal processing of 15 days, extendable to 45 days. Exemptions, centre charges and booking delays are separate, and a visitor document is not general permission to work.
