Study in Malta

Compare licensed Maltese study providers, confirm the qualification level and prepare your original academic records. Check tuition, recognition, residence and any work permission separately. The institution grading legend is the starting point for your marks; no universal foreign-grade conversion or paid-placement promise is supplied.

Programmes and entry preparation

Higher-education qualifications, preparatory courses and other study categories can have different immigration conditions. Identita identifies licensed institutions and recognized qualification requirements, not simply a course advertisement. Provider acceptance and academic assessment do not issue a visa or permit. Verify the actual fee, financial evidence and insurance conditions with the institution, current residence authority and competent mission.

Bachelor and first-degree study

Ask the provider to assess your foreign school certificate, subjects, programme language and entry conditions. Confirm the licensed institution, recognized qualification and course level before payment.

  • Prepare school-leaving records, subject prerequisites and any required entrance or preparatory evidence.
  • Provide the original grading legend and programme-specific language evidence.
  • Check the institution deadline, admission conditions and qualification outcome before payment.
Discuss this study level

Master and postgraduate study

Confirm the relevant first degree, subject background and programme language/selection evidence. A foreign GPA, degree title or recognition statement is not automatically admission to every programme.

  • Prepare the first degree, transcripts, relevant subject credits and any required portfolio, references or experience.
  • Provide the original grading legend and programme-specific language evidence.
  • Check the institution deadline, admission conditions and qualification outcome before payment.
Discuss this study level

Doctoral, research and preparatory options

Research admission, host arrangements and funding require separate checks, and the residence category may differ from taught study. Preparatory or other courses must meet their actual level/purpose conditions; do not assume an online or short course supports residence.

Explore fields through the official programme portal

  • Engineering and technology
  • Computer science and data
  • Business and economics
  • Natural and life sciences
  • Humanities and social sciences
  • Design, education and other fields

These are search categories, not a promise that every institution offers every subject. Regulated professions and practical placements can require additional checks.

Maltese qualifications and provider grading rules

A national foreign-grade conversion or complete numeric institution table was not verified from the accessible sources. Use the provider grading legend and recognition instructions. MQF level and qualification recognition describe the award, not a converted grade or admission decision.

Local grades, not a conversion of foreign marks
Grade or resultMeaning and scope
Original numeric or letter marksKeep the exact transcript and grading legend.
Provider assessment rulesConfirm pass, classification and conversion requirements with the institution.
MQF level / recognitionQualification level and recognition are separate from academic marks.

There is no universal German-style calculation applied here. Do not infer admission from a passing grade or convert your percentage or CGPA without an accepted method.

Consult the university Registrar for academic-record rules

Local academic and recognition terms

MQF
Malta Qualifications Framework; course/award level must fit the relevant study category.
MQRIC
Malta qualification-recognition information authority referenced in Identita guidance.
Identita Expatriates Unit
Residence authority, separate from institution admission and qualification evaluation.

Admission and language checks

  • Confirm provider licensing, award recognition and programme entry conditions.
  • Ask how the institution assesses your foreign certificate/degree and language evidence.
  • Obtain current grade and qualification-recognition instructions rather than an informal letter-to-GPA shortcut.

Funding opportunities

Scholarships and fee waivers

Check official provider scholarships and fee reductions for the programme and nationality. Do not assume domestic grants, stipends or provider exemptions cover every international applicant or all living costs.

Work rights are conditional, and employment is not guaranteed funding.

During study and after graduation

Working while studying

Employment depends on course category, actual study status and the required current Jobsplus/authority permission. Do not assume immediate or unrestricted employment on every educational visa; no universal hour or waiting rule is inferred here.

Check the actual current graduate or employment category before continued stay or work. A qualification and any legal job-search option do not guarantee a job, permit or unrestricted employer changes.

Check work and graduate conditions

Arrival and continued study

Follow institution enrolment and Identita residence/identity requirements. Check the actual insurance arrangement, address obligations and renewal conditions; a provider residence exemption is not a universal health-coverage exemption.

Questions before applying

Study in Malta: FAQs

Use current institution and authority instructions for your case, not a generic regional checklist.

Does MQF level tell me my converted grade?

No. Qualification level and recognition are different from academic mark assessment.

Official guidance

Is a universal Maltese grade calculator provided?

No national or complete provider conversion was verified. Ask the institution for its grading legend and foreign-qualification assessment.

Does an advertised course establish residence eligibility?

No. Provider licensing, qualification recognition, course category and the authority requirements must be checked.

Is the published EUR 50 an entry-visa fee?

The retrieved Identita guidance describes study/research/training residence application fees. Confirm entry-visa and other submission charges separately.

Are all students exempt from insurance?

No. Identita names specific providers for a residence insurance exemption. Confirm the institution and entry-visa requirements; do not generalize it.

Does the online portal remove identity appointments?

Do not assume so. The current authority page also contains in-person requirements; follow the actual procedure.

Is a grade conversion an admission decision?

No. Local grade references and official equivalence services explain academic records; the admitting institution still decides qualification recognition, subject fit, language and selection.

Should I convert my CGPA using a percentage shortcut?

Only use a conversion accepted by the receiving institution. Provide the original transcript, maximum and minimum passing marks, grading legend and any official conversion supplied by your awarding institution.

Is there a universal IELTS score or study-gap limit?

No universal score or gap cutoff is stated here. Check the actual programme requirements and explain your study history accurately; institutional selection and immigration assessment are separate.

Does an English-taught programme remove every local-language requirement?

No. Admission, daily life, placements and regulated professional practice can have different language expectations. Check the programme and any placement requirements separately.

Can part-time work pay for the initial visa application?

Do not rely on finding work. Prepare the required financial evidence before travel and a realistic budget without guaranteed earnings. Work rights do not guarantee a vacancy.

Are proof of funds and tuition the same cost?

No. Tuition is a charge; maintenance funds show resources available for living. Do not double-count the same living balance as both a fee and expenditure.

Are scholarships or fee waivers guaranteed?

No. Check nationality, programme, deadline, coverage and renewal conditions with the official provider. A tuition waiver may not cover living costs, insurance or travel.

Do all South Asian applicants use the same embassy?

No. Citizenship, passport and legal residence affect jurisdiction and documents. Confirm the current competent mission and authorized centre; some applicants may need to travel to another country.

Should I legalize every document before choosing a programme?

Check the institution and mission requirements first. Translation, apostille, consular legalization and academic verification are different procedures; apply the requirement relevant to your record and location.

Are admission, an appointment or a visa guaranteed?

No. Institutions and authorities decide. Published processing estimates do not include every appointment or passport-return delay, and support cannot guarantee a travel date.

Is my profile submitted when I use the page tool?

No. The tool creates a summary in your browser only. It does not send or store your entries on our server and is not an admissions assessment. Contact us separately to discuss available support.
