Study in Poland

Explore Polish first-cycle, second-cycle and doctoral study with original qualification and grading records. Confirm institution admission and immigration eligibility separately, and assess tuition exemptions against your actual status. Local university grades explain assessment; they are not a conversion of your foreign CGPA or an admission guarantee.

Poland: Study and academic preparation

Choose your next qualification

Programmes and entry preparation

Polish higher education includes academic, professional and integrated long-cycle routes. School results, maturity-exam percentages and university grades use different reference systems. The chosen institution must assess the foreign qualification and language evidence. Prepare fees, maintenance and insurance through the current consular/residence process rather than relying on an older national average or a promised job.

Bachelor and first-degree study

Compare first-cycle licencjat and technical inzynier programmes, as well as relevant integrated programmes. Check the institution foreign school-qualification and subject requirements; a Polish matura description is not automatic equivalence for a South Asian certificate.

  • Prepare school-leaving records, subject prerequisites and any required entrance or preparatory evidence.
  • Provide the original grading legend and programme-specific language evidence.
  • Check the institution deadline, admission conditions and qualification outcome before payment.
Discuss this study level

Master and postgraduate study

Second-cycle magister programmes assess the previous degree and subject background. Integrated long-cycle study differs from a separate bachelor followed by master. Confirm the actual entry level, transcript and language requirements.

  • Prepare the first degree, transcripts, relevant subject credits and any required portfolio, references or experience.
  • Provide the original grading legend and programme-specific language evidence.
  • Check the institution deadline, admission conditions and qualification outcome before payment.

Doctoral, research and preparatory options

NAWA describes tuition-free doctoral-school education and conditional doctoral scholarships. Admission, research plan and funding conditions remain provider-specific. Postgraduate continuing programmes do not automatically award the same degree as a magister or doctorate.

These are search categories, not a promise that every institution offers every subject. Regulated professions and practical placements can require additional checks.

Understand your academic profile

Polish university grades and qualification levels

Nuffic states that institutions choose their assessment system; the usual university scale runs from 2 to 5, with 3 the lowest passing grade. Do not confuse it with secondary-school grades or maturity-exam percentages.

Local grades, not a conversion of foreign marks
Grade or resultMeaning and scope
5 / 4Very good / good on the usual university scale.
3 / 2Sufficient (pass) / insufficient; institutions may use intermediate grades.
ZaliczonoPass recorded without a numeric mark; use the institution legend.

There is no universal German-style calculation applied here. Do not infer admission from a passing grade or convert your percentage or CGPA without an accepted method.

Local academic and recognition terms

Licencjat / inzynier
General or technical first-cycle degree names; qualification content still matters.
Magister
Master-level qualification; separate second-cycle and integrated long-cycle routes exist.
Matura / egzamin maturalny
Polish maturity examination; its results are not the university grading scale.

Admission and language checks

  • Confirm current foreign-certificate recognition and any required authority/institution verification.
  • Check institution eligibility to admit third-country students and full-time study status.
  • Provide programme language, original transcripts and the applicable grading legend.

Funding opportunities

Scholarships and fee waivers

Check NAWA and institution schemes for nationality, subject, intake, language and coverage. Doctoral-school scholarships follow statutory conditions; neither admission nor a funding application guarantees an award.

Work rights are conditional, and employment is not guaranteed funding.

During study and after graduation

Working while studying

Work access depends on the qualifying student document and status. Do not assume every language, part-time or non-degree course has the same exemption. Confirm current rights before employment and retain an independent initial funding plan.

Graduate job-search or business options require their own qualification, timing and residence checks. Confirm the current procedure; neither a degree nor access to the labour market guarantees employment.

Arrival and continued study

Follow current residence, address, insurance and institution registration instructions. Maintain required study progress and verify renewal or purpose changes before the document expires.

Questions before applying

Study in Poland: FAQs

Use current institution and authority instructions for your case, not a generic regional checklist.

Are Polish school and university grades identical?

No. Nuffic distinguishes secondary-school, maturity-exam and university systems.

Official guidance

What is the usual university passing grade?

Nuffic gives 3 as the lowest pass on the usual 2-5 scale, while noting that institutions choose their assessment system.

What are licencjat, inzynier and magister?

They identify general/technical first-cycle and master qualifications; check programme content and route.

Official guidance

Is every public university free for a non-EU student?

No. NAWA describes status-dependent exemptions; the institution sets the applicable charge.

Official guidance

Is a postgraduate course automatically a master degree?

No. Continuing postgraduate programmes can have different outcomes from degree-awarding master study.

Are doctoral-school scholarships unconditional?

No. NAWA describes legal conditions and exceptions; check admission and award requirements.

Is a grade conversion an admission decision?

No. Local grade references and official equivalence services explain academic records; the admitting institution still decides qualification recognition, subject fit, language and selection.

Should I convert my CGPA using a percentage shortcut?

Only use a conversion accepted by the receiving institution. Provide the original transcript, maximum and minimum passing marks, grading legend and any official conversion supplied by your awarding institution.

Is there a universal IELTS score or study-gap limit?

No universal score or gap cutoff is stated here. Check the actual programme requirements and explain your study history accurately; institutional selection and immigration assessment are separate.

Does an English-taught programme remove every local-language requirement?

No. Admission, daily life, placements and regulated professional practice can have different language expectations. Check the programme and any placement requirements separately.

Can part-time work pay for the initial visa application?

Do not rely on finding work. Prepare the required financial evidence before travel and a realistic budget without guaranteed earnings. Work rights do not guarantee a vacancy.

Are proof of funds and tuition the same cost?

No. Tuition is a charge; maintenance funds show resources available for living. Do not double-count the same living balance as both a fee and expenditure.

Are scholarships or fee waivers guaranteed?

No. Check nationality, programme, deadline, coverage and renewal conditions with the official provider. A tuition waiver may not cover living costs, insurance or travel.

Do all South Asian applicants use the same embassy?

No. Citizenship, passport and legal residence affect jurisdiction and documents. Confirm the current competent mission and authorized centre; some applicants may need to travel to another country.

Should I legalize every document before choosing a programme?

Check the institution and mission requirements first. Translation, apostille, consular legalization and academic verification are different procedures; apply the requirement relevant to your record and location.

Are admission, an appointment or a visa guaranteed?

No. Institutions and authorities decide. Published processing estimates do not include every appointment or passport-return delay, and support cannot guarantee a travel date.

Is my profile submitted when I use the page tool?

No. The tool creates a summary in your browser only. It does not send or store your entries on our server and is not an admissions assessment. Contact us separately to discuss available support.
