Understand your academic profile

German grade calculator

Get a first estimate using the modified Bavarian formula. Enter the best achievable grade, minimum passing grade and your overall grade from the same grading scale.

German passing grades generally run from 1.0 (best) to 4.0 (minimum pass). This estimate is not an official conversion or an admission assessment.

Formula: 1 + 3 × (best grade − your grade) / (best grade − passing grade). Numeric scales with either higher or lower best grades are supported. Letter grades need an institution-approved numeric mapping.

Life alongside your studies

Working while studying

Do not plan on 80 working hours per week during the semester. The commonly applicable term-time student-employment threshold is 20 hours per week; residence-permit conditions and social-insurance rules also apply.

  • Many non-EU international students may work up to 140 full or 280 half days per year, subject to their residence conditions.
  • Full-time work may be possible during lecture-free semester breaks, within applicable residence, annual work and employment limits. It is not unrestricted permission.
  • EU/EEA/Swiss students have different labour-market access rules. Self-employment can require separate permission.

Confirm your situation with the university's International Office and the relevant authorities before accepting work.

Our end-to-end support

From setting your study goals through university admission and visa preparation, our consultants guide you through each stage. We aim to make the process clear and manageable; admission and visa decisions remain with institutions and authorities.

Study Goals & EligibilityDefine your direction and assess how your academic profile aligns with potential programs.
  1. Set your study goals. Identify your preferred subject, degree level, language of instruction, location, budget and intended start date.

  3. Explore suitable programs. Shortlist institutions and courses that align with your background, interests and plans.
  4. Plan your next steps. Map application windows, likely requirements and preparation priorities for each option.
