Study in Denmark

Compare Danish study programmes, prepare your original qualifications and build a realistic funding plan. Choose the institution and programme first, then check admission and the SIRI student residence category. Local grades help explain academic records, but do not decide whether your foreign qualification is accepted.

Programmes and entry preparation

University, professional and academy programmes have different entry and qualification outcomes. Check the teaching language and the actual institution deadline, fee and recognition instructions. Programme approval also matters for immigration and work rights; do not assume every private course has the same conditions. This page concerns Denmark, not separate entry arrangements for Greenland or the Faroe Islands.

Bachelor and first-degree study

Compare university bachelor, professional bachelor and academy profession options through Study in Denmark. A foreign school-leaving certificate and required subjects need institution assessment; programme types should not be treated as identical qualifications.

  • Prepare school-leaving records, subject prerequisites and any required entrance or preparatory evidence.
  • Provide the original grading legend and programme-specific language evidence.
  • Check the institution deadline, admission conditions and qualification outcome before payment.
Discuss this study level

Master and postgraduate study

Check whether your first degree and relevant subject credits meet the chosen master programme. The institution assesses grade records, language, selection and any additional evidence; meeting a general passing standard is not admission.

  • Prepare the first degree, transcripts, relevant subject credits and any required portfolio, references or experience.
  • Provide the original grading legend and programme-specific language evidence.
  • Check the institution deadline, admission conditions and qualification outcome before payment.
Discuss this study level

Doctoral, research and preparatory options

Doctoral or research positions have separate admission, employment and residence questions. Confirm the host arrangement and SIRI category instead of assuming the ordinary student route applies. Preparatory or short courses must be checked for immigration eligibility independently.

These are search categories, not a promise that every institution offers every subject. Regulated professions and practical placements can require additional checks.

Danish 7-point grading scale

The Danish Agency describes seven grades, not a continuous 0-12 conversion scale. State-regulated education uses target-based assessment; 02 is the minimum passing grade. These descriptions do not supply a foreign-CGPA conversion formula.

Local grades, not a conversion of foreign marks
Grade or resultMeaning and scope
12 / 10 / 7Excellent / very good / good performance.
4 / 02Fair performance / minimum requirements met; 02 is a pass.
00 / -3Below minimum requirements / unacceptable performance.
Pass / failSome assessments use pass/fail instead of numeric grades.

There is no universal German-style calculation applied here. Do not infer admission from a passing grade or convert your percentage or CGPA without an accepted method.

Local academic and recognition terms

Seven permitted grades; do not divide your foreign percentage by a constant.
Academy profession / professional bachelor

Admission and language checks

  • Ask the institution how it assesses your specific school certificate or degree and subject prerequisites.
  • Check accepted English or Danish evidence with the programme; no universal language score is quoted.
  • Follow programme deadlines and distinguish qualification assessment from competitive selection.

Funding opportunities

Scholarships and fee waivers

Check scholarships and tuition reductions with the institution and official Study in Denmark guidance. Eligibility and coverage vary; do not assume public student grants or full funding are available to every international applicant.

During study and after graduation

Working while studying

Check the actual SIRI decision and current programme-specific work permission before employment. A state-approved programme and other educational categories must not be assumed to have identical rights; no universal hour allowance is inferred here.

Graduate stay and employment options depend on the completed programme and current category conditions. Confirm eligibility, funds, application timing and work rights directly with SIRI; no job or permanent residence is promised.

Arrival and continued study

Follow the institution and SIRI instructions on address/registration, permit documentation, insurance and continued enrolment. Check renewal, programme changes and any placement authorization before changing activity.

Questions before applying

Study in Denmark: FAQs

Use current institution and authority instructions for your case, not a generic regional checklist.

Is 02 a Danish passing grade?

Yes, the official seven-point reference identifies 02 as the minimum pass. It is a local assessment grade, not the foreign grade needed to gain admission.

Official guidance

Can I calculate a Danish grade by dividing my percentage?

No universal method is provided. Submit original records and use the receiving institution assessment.

Are all Danish programme types interchangeable?

No. University, professional bachelor and academy profession programmes have different outcomes and entry requirements.

What is the current SIRI application charge?

The retrieved higher-education page lists DKK 3,060. Verify the current category fee and any additional submission costs before paying.

Official guidance

Does every private course provide student work rights?

Do not assume so. Check programme eligibility and the actual SIRI authorization; no generic work entitlement is promised.

Does this page cover the Faroe Islands or Greenland?

No. Verify those territories separately instead of assuming Danish mainland entry or residence rules apply.

Is a grade conversion an admission decision?

No. Local grade references and official equivalence services explain academic records; the admitting institution still decides qualification recognition, subject fit, language and selection.

Should I convert my CGPA using a percentage shortcut?

Only use a conversion accepted by the receiving institution. Provide the original transcript, maximum and minimum passing marks, grading legend and any official conversion supplied by your awarding institution.

Is there a universal IELTS score or study-gap limit?

No universal score or gap cutoff is stated here. Check the actual programme requirements and explain your study history accurately; institutional selection and immigration assessment are separate.

Does an English-taught programme remove every local-language requirement?

No. Admission, daily life, placements and regulated professional practice can have different language expectations. Check the programme and any placement requirements separately.

Can part-time work pay for the initial visa application?

Do not rely on finding work. Prepare the required financial evidence before travel and a realistic budget without guaranteed earnings. Work rights do not guarantee a vacancy.

Are proof of funds and tuition the same cost?

No. Tuition is a charge; maintenance funds show resources available for living. Do not double-count the same living balance as both a fee and expenditure.

Are scholarships or fee waivers guaranteed?

No. Check nationality, programme, deadline, coverage and renewal conditions with the official provider. A tuition waiver may not cover living costs, insurance or travel.

Do all South Asian applicants use the same embassy?

No. Citizenship, passport and legal residence affect jurisdiction and documents. Confirm the current competent mission and authorized centre; some applicants may need to travel to another country.

Should I legalize every document before choosing a programme?

Check the institution and mission requirements first. Translation, apostille, consular legalization and academic verification are different procedures; apply the requirement relevant to your record and location.

Are admission, an appointment or a visa guaranteed?

No. Institutions and authorities decide. Published processing estimates do not include every appointment or passport-return delay, and support cannot guarantee a travel date.

Is my profile submitted when I use the page tool?

No. The tool creates a summary in your browser only. It does not send or store your entries on our server and is not an admissions assessment. Contact us separately to discuss available support.
